What Drives Us

The U.S. construction industry is dominated by small and medium-sized businesses. And while they’re busy building for us, no one is building for them. According to the latest U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, almost 40% of construction contractors go out of business within five years.

 

At CrewCost, we decided that should change. We believe that every contractor, no matter how big or small, should have the tools to build a financial foundation with the same strength and durability as the foundations they build for our homes, schools, and workplaces.

Our Story

As a former construction business owner, Chris Lee experienced firsthand the challenges of using generic accounting software to run his contracting business. He tried integrating point solutions, using spreadsheets, and hiring costly external help—a frustrating process that took valuable attention away from other parts of the business. 

 

This experience gave him deep insights into the operational and financial challenges of running a contracting business. In 2015, he founded Esticom, a cloud-based takeoff and estimating application designed to help contractors bid and win more projects. Esticom's success led to its acquisition by Procore Technologies in 2020.

 

Chris connected with Yancy Lassiter, a friend and longtime CFO in the construction industry, to find a better way for contractors to run their business. That’s when the idea for CrewCost was born. 


CrewCost is a modern construction accounting software that integrates job costing and time-tracking into a simple-to-use, yet powerful application. Contractors can see how each and every job impacts profits so they can build confidently.
